Military families and first responders
You were trained to stay strong, stay alert and keep going. Those are gifts on duty. At home, they can start to cost you. Our team includes a former U.S. Army chaplain with 23 years of service, and a military spouse who has raised a family through deployments and moves.
Always on watch
Hypervigilance keeps you alive in danger. But when your body can't return to normal, you stay stuck scanning for threats: on edge, unable to relax, angry or anxious. Move the slider to see what too much, for too long, does to the window.
Inside the window, you can feel the pressure and still think clearly.
What you were taught
Strong cultures pass down strong messages. Some of them serve you well on duty and work against you at home. Pick one to see what it can cost.
What it can cost
A truer version
Small things done well
Admiral William McRaven tells new graduates to start each day by making their bed: a small task done well, which leads to the next one. Change works the same way. Motivation leads to movement, and movement builds momentum.
Motivation
Know who you want to be at home
The same clarity you bring to a mission, aimed at the person you want to be with your family.
Movement
One small task, done well
A walk, a real conversation, one evening off the phone. Start there.
Momentum
Let it build
Small wins stack. Keep going, and don't quit on the off days.
How the Hope Method helps
Every provider here works from the same method, and our team knows military and first responder life from the inside.
Tolerate uncomfortable emotions
Bringing your body back down from high alert, and letting yourself feel what you had to set aside.
Rethink unhelpful thoughts
Retraining the messages that kept you going, so they don't keep you isolated.
Identify the person you want to be
Who you are is more than your rank, role or badge. We help you hold onto that through transitions and after service.
Change unhelpful behaviors
Practical steps for coming home, again and again, after deployments and hard shifts.
Keep connected to healthy community
You're stronger connected. Military Reboot meets on Wednesdays for service members, veterans and spouses.
“For by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.”
Proverbs 24:6 (ESV)
Where faith fits
Asking for counsel isn't weakness. Scripture calls it wisdom. Our team includes a former Army chaplain who spent 23 years providing Christian counseling and pastoral care to soldiers and their families.
If you'd like prayer or scripture in your sessions, ask. If you wouldn't, it won't come up.
What "spiritually informed" meansGetting started
The practical details, and the questions people ask most.
- Cost
- $75For 50 minutes, paid at the appointment. The same for individuals, couples and families.
- Insurance
- Not acceptedNo superbills. Cash, check, card, and HSA or FSA cards all work.
- Where
- In person or telehealth3231 Washington Rd., or from home for most concerns.
- Getting in
- Usually this weekEvery provider is taking new clients. We try to see people the week they reach out.
Do you work with spouses and kids?
Yes. We see couples, families and children from age 6, and our team includes a military spouse who knows deployments and moves firsthand.
Do you take TRICARE or other insurance?
We don't accept insurance and can't provide superbills. Sessions are $75 for 50 minutes, and HSA and FSA cards work.
Can I do sessions by telehealth?
Yes, for most concerns, which helps with shift work and training schedules.
Will faith be part of my sessions?
Only if you want it to be. Our providers share a Christian worldview, and if you'd like prayer or scripture in your sessions, ask and your provider will gladly include it. If you wouldn't, it won't come up. Everyone is welcome here, whatever they believe.
What happens in the first session?
It's a conversation about what you need, not an intake. Afterwards you decide whether to keep going, with no commitment either way. If you continue, a few forms and some homework come through the client portal.
