About Hope
What is Hope Mental Wellness Center?
Hope Mental Wellness Center is a Christian counseling practice at 3231 Washington Rd. in Augusta, Georgia. Five providers offer clinically based, spiritually informed counseling for adults, couples, families and children 6 and up, in person or by telehealth. Sessions are $75 for 50 minutes, and every provider is taking new clients.
Is Hope a Christian counseling center?
Yes. Every provider at Hope shares a Christian worldview, and our care is clinically based, using proven, research-backed approaches. Faith is offered, never imposed: if you'd like prayer or scripture in your sessions, ask, and if you wouldn't, it won't come up. Everyone is welcome, whatever they believe. More on Christian counseling at Hope.
What is the Hope Method?
The Hope Method is the shared approach every provider at Hope uses. It works on five areas: facing hard feelings instead of avoiding them, questioning unhelpful thoughts, knowing the person you want to be, changing unhelpful habits one small step at a time, and staying connected to healthy community. It comes from the work of our director, Bret Legg. How the Hope Method works.
Who leads Hope Mental Wellness Center?
Bret Legg is Hope's director. He has more than 30 years of experience in pre-marital, marriage, family and parenting counseling, and with grief, depression and spiritual concerns. He holds master's degrees in Marriage and Family Counseling and in Religious Education, and hosts podcasts. Meet the team.
What areas does Hope serve?
Hope is on Washington Road in Augusta, Georgia, and sees people from across the CSRA. Telehealth is available for most concerns, so you can also meet with a provider from home.
Is there anything I can do tonight, before I book?
Yes. Our Start here, right now page gives you one thing to try tonight for worry, low mood, grief, a hurting marriage, a betrayal, a struggling child or trauma, then points you to the next step. Online scheduling works at any hour. If you or someone you love is in danger, call 911, or call or text 988.
Support groups
Does Hope offer support groups in Augusta?
Yes. Support groups are hosted with Warren Church and open to anyone in the community. They include an Anxiety and Depression group led by one of Hope's providers (Wednesdays, 6:15 to 7:45 PM), GriefShare, DivorceCare, a Partner Betrayal Trauma group for women (online), Military Reboot for veterans and military families, and Freedom groups for sexual addiction and substance abuse recovery. See every group and register.
How do I join a support group?
Pick a group on our Resources page and choose "Details and registration." Most groups ask you to register before the first meeting, and a few ask you to buy a workbook. The group's page lists dates, times and any cost.
Should I join a group or book counseling?
Either is a good first step, and many people do both. A group offers understanding and encouragement from others who have been there. Counseling gives you one-on-one, couples or family time with a provider. If you're not sure, a first session can help you decide.
Getting started
What can I expect?
Your first session is a conversation about what you need. At the end of it, you decide whether you'd like to keep working together, and there's no commitment either way.
Sometimes one session covers it, and you don't need to come back unless something else comes up. If you want to continue, we'll set up the next appointment and send a few forms and some homework through the client portal.
From there we'll ask you to roll up your sleeves and work with us. How often you come, and for how long, is something you and your provider decide together. We want to see you as long as you need us and no longer. This kind of work can be uncomfortable at times, because change usually is. People who stick with it tend to get where they wanted to go.
What do you help with?
Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, marriage and family concerns, parenting, conflict, anger, sexual addiction, marriage betrayal, and big life changes. Faith is part of it if you want it: see Christian counseling.
- Individual, couples and family sessions
- Children and teens from age 6
- Military families, veterans and first responders
- Support groups for anxiety and depression, grief, divorce, sexual addiction, betrayal trauma, substance abuse and more
How do I choose a provider?
The provider finder asks a few questions and suggests one or two names. Each provider's background is on Our team.
You can also leave a note when you request an appointment online, and our front desk team will help you choose. Still unsure? Call the office at 762.328.4673.
What does "spiritually informed" mean?
It means we believe lasting hope is found in Jesus Christ, and we point people to Him. Our counseling is clinically based, using proven, research-backed approaches, and it rests on the conviction that Jesus came so that we "may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).
In practice, that can mean praying together, opening scripture alongside the practical tools, and talking honestly about what following Jesus means for the problem in front of you, whether that's your anxiety, your grief or your marriage. Bring your doubts and hard questions about God too. Your provider will meet you where you are.
We'll never pressure you, and faith is never a condition of care. If you're not a Christian, or not sure what you believe, you're welcome here, and if you'd rather keep faith out of your sessions, tell us and we'll respect that. We just won't hide who we are, or where we believe real hope comes from.
Do you see children and teens?
Yes. Kids are a large part of what we do right now. We see children from age 6, often in Addie's Corner, our room for kids, and we work with parents alongside them. Anxiety and depression are easier to work with when they're caught early.
What if my provider isn't a good fit?
Tell us and we'll connect you with someone else. Feeling comfortable with your provider matters, and nobody will take it personally.

What does a session cost?
$75 for a 50-minute session, paid at the appointment. The rate is the same for individuals, couples and families.
